2021 Senior Short Film
AMBROSIA
Finding Maggie
The main character, Maggie, is a housewife from rural Iowa. She has been known to sport bruises from her husband at the local grocer.
Maggie is based on my great-great-grandmother, who was in an abusive relationship. While my short film takes place in the late 1930’s, my grandmother’s story happened between 1895 and 1910.
The Animatic
This was the first animatic that I made for AMBROSIA, and it’s pretty evident that I didn’t have the timing down yet.
Final Thoughts
I made this film when I was a senior in college during the beginning of the COVID pandemic. My workstation was a 2017 Macbook, a Wacom tablet, and one room in an apartment with three other people. Not to mention, halfway through the development of the film, I learned that Ambrosia apples weren’t invented until the 80s. Go figure.
I was in way over my head, but somehow I managed to release something that was close to being done. I am proud of my work, though I do feel a bit embarrassed to watch it nowadays. Despite how much time passes, this film is a reminder to myself that I am capable of achieving whatever I set my mind to.
